South Shields (with Emma Luckhart)

Hello!!!!

Today we visited the South Shields Roman fort. It had both ruins and reconstructions of some of the buildings, including the Praetorium (Commander’s House) and the Main Gate. At the Commander’s House, Felicia talked about the importance of the Principia (Headquarters Building) and the Praetorium in Roman military administration and daily life. Emma elaborated on the logistics of Roman gates and military defenses. Overall, it was a very informative afternoon. We hope you enjoy the pictures!!!

  1. I always wondered what it looked like inside a Praetorium. It looks like this Prefect was rather fond of bacon strips.
