Week Five has sadly drawn to a close for all of us field schoolers here at Vindolanda. 😦 We are all super upset that this experience is drawing to an end, but we really have tried to make the most of our time here. That is why I want to share some of our awesome photos from week five.
We had an exciting time last week. We went to visit our wonderful excavation friend Graham at his home where he showed us his collection, and discussed with us the importance of conservation and community involvement with history. On Tuesday, we also had the opportunity to visit Maryport, which Mary blogged about. Here we were allowed to tour an archaeological site and hear a lecture by Dr. Ian Haynes. I must say its weird watching other people dig! We also went through some great material in our trench and generally enjoyed site. Our week was topped off with various recreational time, as well as time spent with many fantastic people at the Vindolanda Friends Night!
As per usual, I was snapping photos, and I must say our team is as photogenic as ever!
