From the trenches

Good Morning, Everyone!!

Greetings from (SUNNY!!!) Northumberland. We are still without an internet connection at the cottages, but we should be back running at full capacity today or tomorrow, according to BT.

In the meantime the students have been catching up on reading and watching our collection of classically themed movies.  On Sunday I found most of them watching (or sleeping in front of) Masada, starring Peter O’Toole. They had certainly earned a day’s rest after receiving their trowels on Friday and visiting the Great North Museum in Newcastle and the Roman fort in South Shield (Arbeia) on Saturday (more on those trips later).

We did half a day of heavy labor in the trenches on Friday, but Monday was our first full day of work.  The weather is perfect and everyone is doing great, bar a little bit of sunburn, if you can believe it!!!

Here’s a picture to keep you going until we are back on line properly.

Happy digging,

Alex
